CIMARA

The Azores Consumer Information, Mediation and Arbitration Center (CIMARA) aims to resolve consumer disputes, through conciliation, mediation or arbitration, relating to contracts concluded within the respective geographic scope – the Autonomous Region of Azores, including conflicts arising from remote or off-premises contracts, in cases where the consumer resides in its geographic area.

Our History

The CIMARA project took its first steps in November 2020, with the signing of a protocol for the creation of an Association for the Promotion of the Consumer Information, Mediation and Arbitration Center of the Azores, between the Autonomous Region of the Azores, the Association of Municipalities of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, the Association of Consumers of the Azores Region (ACRA), the Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Azores and the Association of Civil Construction and Public Works Industries of the Azores.

The next step took place in February 2021, with the granting of the public deed that created the ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE CENTER OF INFORMATION, MEDIATION AND CONSUMER ARBITRAGE OF THE AÇORES, a non-profit private law association.

Currently, we are a Consumer Conflict Arbitration Center, which promotes the carrying out of arbitration in an institutionalized manner under Law No. 63/2011, of 14/12 and Decree-Law No. 425/86, of 27/12, authorized by Order No. 12783/2022 of the Deputy Secretary of the Minister of Justice, published in the Official Gazette No. 213/2022, Series II of 2022-11-04.
